Starting a Chapter

Starting an NCSHS Chapter at your school is easy! School memberships are free and are open to any secondary girls' school across the globe.  Co-ed schools may also start a chapter, as long as membership is open to girls and to students identifying as girls.

Starting a Chapter
  • The teacher who will serve as chapter advisor must have permission to start a chapter and is wholly responsible for completing the application.
  • Complete the application form.
  • When your application is received, you will receive a school statement form to be signed by the principal, supporting your application. The form will also ask for how the chapter will be implemented in your school.
  • In approximately four weeks after your application is submitted, we will contact you with the status of your application.
  • If your application is approved, you will receive a chapter implementation package by mail.

Membership Requirements
Once your chapter is approved, you will need to begin selecting members. We recommend one initial cohort of members, followed by a yearly cohort selected at the end of the school year. Some member guidelines may include:
  • Be a senior or a junior.
  • Maintain an A- average in locally-offered computer science courses OR
  • Successful completion of two year-long computer science or programming courses offered through any recognized online provider OR
  • Demonstration of proficiency for computer science in at least two interdisciplinary projects that utilize appropriate CS skills.
Local chapters may decide how potential members may demonstrate proficiency in computer science.
